===========================================================================
A. Setup/Install Instructions
===========================================================================
Setup and Registration Overview
-------------------------------
Start Windows and insert Disk 1. If you are running Windows 3.1 or Windows
For Workgroups 3.11, choose the "Run" option from the Program Manager "File"
menu. If you are running Windows 95, choose the "Run" option from the "Start"
menu. Type a:\setup (or b:\setup depending on your floppy drive) and press
Enter. Follow the onscreen instructions.
The AT&T WorldNet Setup program has two options for installation:
1. The "Typical" option does a complete install of the software to the
directory C:\WORLDNET. If you want to install to a different directory,
you should choose the "Custom" option.
2. The "Custom" option lets you choose where you want to install the software
and what parts of the software you want to install.
If you have Microsoft Office Manager running, you must close it prior to
installing Netscape Navigator Personal Edition. If you don't close this before
installing, you might get an error message stating that either compobj.dll
or ctl3dv2.dll is being used by another application. The MS Office toolbar,
an indication that MS office is running, is normally located on the top
right corner of your Program Manager's window.
After installing AT&T WorldNet Services, you will need to run the Registration
Wizard application to register with AT&T WorldNet Services. To run the
Registration Wizard, double-click the "Double Click to Register" icon in the
"AT&T WorldNet Services" program group. Click on the "User Information" button
and provide the appropriate information.
Next, you will need to configure the software for your modem. It is recommended
that you allow the Modem Setup to automatically detect your modem type and COM
port. If the Modem Setup can't determine your modem type, you'll need to
specify the information by choosing your modem from the modem list. If your
modem isn't listed, choose Hayes-compatible as the modem type to use during
registration. If this fails, please call AT&T Customer Care.
Finally, click on the "Complete Registration" button and follow the onscreen
instructions to complete the registration process.
Upgrading From a Previous Version of AT&T WorldNet Services (Important!)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The AT&T WorldNet Setup will attempt to detect versions of Netscape Navigator
Personal Edition installed by earlier versions of AT&T WorldNet Services. If
you have a previous version of AT&T WorldNet Services installed on your PC, you
will see a window that asks you if you would like to "Reinstall" over the old
version, or "Deinstall" the old version. We recommend that you reinstall, using
the following procedure:
1. Select the "Reinstall" option.
2. Choose the "Custom" installation option from the next window.
3. Uncheck the "TCP/IP stack and dialer" and "Eudora Light email" boxes.
4. Click on the "Install" button.
Reinstalling will upgrade your software while preserving your original account
information, E-mail information, Netscape preferences, and bookmarks.
If You Have Netscape Installed on Your PC
-----------------------------------------
If your previous installation(s) of Netscape are 32-bit installations (the
version designed specifically for Windows 95), you should not experience any
conflicts with AT&T WorldNet Services. However, if you are running a 16-bit
version (designed for Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11), please
read the section(s) below that pertain to the version(s) that you have
installed on your PC. NOTE: You still need to read these sections if you are
running a 16-bit version of Netscape under Windows 95.
** Netscape Navigator Personal Edition Versions 1.1 and 1.2 **
AT&T WorldNet Setup will attempt to detect previously installed versions of
Netscape Navigator Personal Edition. If you have a version of Netscape
Navigator Personal Edition installed on your PC, you will see a window that
asks you if you would like to "Reinstall" over the old version or "Deinstall"
the old version and then run Setup again.
If you have Netscape Navigator PE 1.1, we recommend that you select the
"Deinstall" option (see the "Deinstall" instructions below). We have observed
some unpredictable behavior when Netscape Navigator PE 1.1 and Netscape
Navigator PE 1.22 (included with AT&T WorldNet Services) are loaded on the
same PC.
If you have Netscape Navigator PE 1.2, we also recommend that you select the
"Deinstall" option (see the "Deinstall" instructions below). However, if you
would like to keep your previous version of Netscape Navigator PE 1.2, you
may elect to "Reinstall" AT&T WorldNet Services to a separate directory (see
the "Reinstall" instructions below).
To Deinstall, do the following:
1. Select the "Deinstall" option (this will delete your existing account
information).
2. Answer "Yes" when Setup asks you if you want to delete the old Netscape
directory (AT&T WorldNet Services software includes Netscape Navigator
Personal Edition 1.22, so you will still be able to browse the web using
Netscape after Setup and Registration are complete).
3. Run AT&T WorldNet Setup again (you will not see the "Deinstall" window
when you rerun Setup).
To Reinstall, do the following:
1. Select the "Reinstall" option.
2. Select the "Custom" install option.
3. On the next window, be sure that the directory that is specified in the
"Install to:" field (the default directory is C:\WORLDNET) is different
from the directory that contains your Netscape Navigator PE 1.2
installation.
4. If you are running Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11, the two
versions of Netscape Navigator Personal Edition may interfere with each
other. Your previous installation of Netscape Navigator PE may use the
NETSCAPE.INI file installed by AT&T WorldNet Setup, instead of its own
.INI file. To allow both versions of Netscape to work properly, we
recommend that you perform the following steps after Setup and Registration
are complete:
- Select the Netscape Navigator icon that you use to launch your previous
version of Netscape Navigator PE 1.2.
- Choose File|Properties from the main Windows (Program Manager) menu.
- Add the following to the "Command Line:" entry:
-i C:\<PE 1.2 install directory>\NETSCAPE.INI
For example, if your previous version of Netscape PE was installed in the
C:\NETSCAPE directory, the full entry in this field would read:
C:\NETSCAPE\NETSCAPE.EXE -i C:\NETSCAPE\NETSCAPE.INI
This change explicitly tells your earlier version of Netscape where to
find its own NETSCAPE.INI file.
** Netscape Configured For Use Over a LAN **
If you have a version of Netscape already installed that is configured for
use over a LAN you may see an information window from AT&T WorldNet Setup
telling you that it found what it thinks is a LAN-based installation. The
window will also inform you that AT&T WorldNet Services will be installed in
the C:\WORLDNET directory. Selecting the "Typical" install option (the default)
will install the software into the C:\WORLDNET directory. You may select a
different destination directory later by selecting the "Custom" install option.
IMPORTANT: If you are running Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11,
installing Netscape Navigator Personal Edition (included with AT&T WorldNet
Services) may interfere with the LAN-based version of Netscape Navigator. The
LAN-based version of Netscape may use the NETSCAPE.INI file installed by AT&T
WorldNet Setup, instead of its own .INI file. To allow both versions of Netscape
to work properly, you must perform the following steps after Setup and
Registration are complete:
1. Select the Netscape Navigator icon that you use to launch your LAN
version of Netscape.
2. Choose File|Properties from the main Windows (Program Manager) menu.
3. Add the following to the "Command Line:" entry:
-i C:\<LAN install directory>\NETSCAPE.INI
For example, if your LAN version of Netscape was installed in the C:\NETSCAPE
directory, the full entry in this field would read:
C:\NETSCAPE\NETSCAPE.EXE -i C:\NETSCAPE\NETSCAPE.INI
This change explicitly tells the LAN version of Netscape where to find its
own NETSCAPE.INI file.
** Netscape Navigator Personal Edition AND Netscape Configured For LAN **
AT&T WorldNet Setup will attempt to detect previously installed versions of
Netscape Navigator Personal Edition. If you have a version of Netscape
Navigator Personal Edition 1.1 or 1.2 already installed, you may see a window
that asks you if you would like to "Reinstall" over the old version, or
"Deinstall" the old version and then run Setup again. You should:
1. Select the "Deinstall" option (this will delete your existing account
information).
2. On the following window, Setup will ask you if you want to delete the old
Netscape directory (AT&T WorldNet Services software includes Netscape
Navigator Personal Edition 1.22, so you will still be able to dial out and
browse the web using Netscape after Setup and Registration are complete).
IMPORTANT: Before answering "Yes" and allowing Setup to delete the
directory (recommended), verify that the directory contains the old version
of Netscape Navigator Personal Edition, and not the version of Netscape
configured for use on your LAN. If the directory contains the "LAN" version,
answer "No" to this question.
3. Run AT&T WorldNet Setup again (you will not see the "Deinstall" window
when you rerun Setup).
===========================================================================
B. Potential Setup/Install Conflicts and Solutions
===========================================================================
We have identified a number of problems that may occur during Setup,
depending on your hardware and software configuration. Where possible, we
have identified workarounds for these problems below.
Microsoft Office
----------------
If you have Microsoft Office or Microsoft QuickShelf running, you must close
them prior to installing The AT&T WorldNet Services software. If you don't
close them before installing, you may get an error message stating that
either compobj.dll or ctl3dv2.dll is being used by another application. The
MS Office toolbar (an indication that the Microsoft Office Manager is running)
is normally located in the top right corner of the Program Manager window. To
close the toolbar, click on the Microsoft Office box in the toolbar (usually
the icon on the far right) and select "Exit" from the resulting menu.
The Microsoft QuickShelf toolbar is normally located in the top left corner
of your screen. To close the Microsoft QuickShelf toolbar, click on the down
arrow box of the toolbar and select "Exit" from the resulting menu.
Win32s Libraries
----------------
Win32s is a set of software libraries that are required by some (any 32-bit)
Windows applications when running under Windows 3.x or Windows For
Workgroups 3.11. If you are running Win32s version 1.15 or below, you must
either upgrade to version 1.20 (or later) or remove Win32s before you can
install the Netscape Navigator Personal Edition.
To determine which version of Win32s you have, use one of two methods:
- If you are running Windows for Workgroups, start File Manager and
select the WIN32S16.DLL file from the Windows system directory.
Choose File|Properties from the menu. The "Version:" line (the fourth
line from the top) contains the major version and the build number
for Win32s.
- Check the WIN32S.INI file in your Windows\system directory
Warning: IF YOU REMOVE WIN32S YOU WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO RUN APPLICATIONS
THAT REQUIRE WIN32S. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU UPGRADE WIN32S RATHER THAN
REMOVING IT.
--To UPGRADE Win32s, do the following--
1. To obtain the latest version of Win32s (Application Note number PW1118)
and the files included with it, download PW1118.EXE (a self-extracting
file), from the Microsoft Software Library (MSL) using one of the
following services:
- CompuServe -
- GO MSL
- Search for PW1118.EXE
- Display results and download
- Microsoft Download Service (MSDL) using the Windows Terminal Program -
- Double-Click on the Windows Terminal icon.
- Choose the "Phone Number" option from the "Settings" menu.
- Enter 12069366735 in the "Dial:" field, and click on OK.
- Choose the "Communications" option from the "Settings" menu.
- Enter your communications information (Comm port, Baud rate, 7 data
bits, 1 stop bit, even parity).
- Choose the "Binary Transfers" option from the "Settings" menu.
- Select XModem/CRC as the transfer protocol.
- Choose the "Dial" option from the "Phone" menu.
- When connected, follow the text prompts until you reach the MSDL
main menu.
- Choose Option 1 (Download), and press Enter.
- Type 'P' (for Protocol) and press Enter.
- Type 'O' (XMODEM-1K) and press Enter.
- Type 'D' (for "Download"), and press Enter.
- Type PW1118.EXE and press Enter.
- MSDL will respond (after it searches its libraries) with a download
time estimate and then asks you to start the download.
- Choose the "Receive Binary File" option from the "Transfers" menu.
- Select the location and name for the file from the resulting dialog
box, and click on OK. The download will start.
- Internet (anonymous FTP) -
- ftp ftp.microsoft.com
- Change to the \SOFTLIB\MSLFILES directory
- Get PW1118.EXE
2. Execute PW1118.EXE, which extracts SETUP.EXE
3. Choose File|Run from the Windows Program Manager, and execute SETUP.EXE.
4. Reboot the PC.
--To REMOVE Win32s, do the following--
1. Remove the following line from the [386Enh] section in the SYSTEM.INI
file:
device=<WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM>\win32s\w32s.386
where <WINDOWS> and <SYSTEM> are where the Windows and System
directories are, respectively.
2. Remove winmm16.dll from the following line in the [BOOT] section of
the SYSTEM.INI file:
drivers=mmsystem.dll winmm16.dll
The line should look like this when you are done:
drivers=mmsystem.dll
3. Delete the following files from the <WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM> subdirectory:
W32SYS.DLL
WIN32S16.DLL
WIN32S.INI
4. Delete all of the files in the <WINDOWS>\<SYSTEM>\WIN32S subdirectory,
then delete the subdirectory itself.
5. Restart Windows.
Insufficient Windows memory to run Setup
----------------------------------------
If you do not have sufficient memory available after starting Windows,
Setup cannot complete successfully. Please be sure to close all
applications before running Setup. If you are not sure whether you have
enough free memory (even after closing all applications), select the
"About Program Manager" option from the Program Manager Help menu. If
the value displayed in the "Memory:" field is less than 4000KB (4 MB)
and no other applications are running, we recommend that you restart
Windows and check the value again before running Setup.
If the value is still less than 4000KB after restarting Windows, or if
Setup tells you that it does not have enough memory to run, the problem
may be due to insufficient conventional (DOS) memory. You should exit
Windows and run a memory optimization program (such as MEMMAKER, which
comes with DOS). To run MEMMAKER, type MEMMAKER at the DOS prompt.
After optimizing your DOS memory, reboot the PC, start Windows, and rerun
Setup. If Setup still does not have sufficient memory to run, try the
following:
1. Remove or comment out (using the REM statement) some or all of the
device drivers/TSRs (e.g., Network drivers, Access PLUS BGMAIL.EXE
TSR) loaded into memory by your CONFIG.SYS and/or AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
To be safe, you should back up your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files
before editing them.
2. Add the following line to your CONFIG.SYS file (if it doesn't exist
already) specifying that DOS should be loaded into high memory:
DOS=HIGH
3. Reboot the PC, start Windows, and rerun Setup.
Laptop With PCMCIA Modem
------------------------
If your laptop is running Phoenix Technologies drivers or SystemSoft
drivers (versions earlier than 2.1), a VxD error can occur while running
AT&T WorldNet Setup. To avoid this problem, change the [ShivaPPP] entry
in the SYSTEM.INI file (in the Windows directory) to read:
[ShivaPPP]
ClaimPort=0
If you experience problems of this kind (even with this fix added), please
contact Phoenix Technologies and SystemSoft to upgrade your drivers.
MegaHertz Modem
---------------
To determine if you have a Megahertz modem, pop the modem card out of the
slot in the side of the laptop PC, and check the writing on it for a brand
name. When Setup autodetects a Megahertz PCMCIA modem, certain laptops
require that the modem card be removed and reinserted if the machine hangs
during the registration process. Click the Finish button in the Modem Setup
to complete the process.
Alternatively, you can manually specify the necessary communications
information (i.e., do not let Setup autodetect the modem).
AT&T Mail Access PLUS For Windows
---------------------------------
During the registration portion of the setup process, the Registration
Wizard needs to have access to your modem to dial out to AT&T WorldNet.
AT&T Mail Access PLUS For Windows also uses your modem to dial AT&T Mail
and retrieve your mail. We recommend that you disable the AT&T Mail
Access PLUS Mail Transport program ("Background Mailer" in versions of
Access PLUS earlier than 2.7) prior to registering with AT&T WorldNet
Services. To disable the Mail Transport program, see the section below
that pertains to the version of AT&T Mail Access PLUS For Windows
installed on your PC.
** AT&T Mail Access PLUS For Windows Versions Earlier Than 2.7 **
NOTE: Versions of AT&T Mail Access PLUS For Windows earlier than 2.5.1
are no longer supported. Please call AT&T EasyLink Customer Support at
1-800-624-5672 to upgrade to the current version of AT&T Mail Access
PLUS For Windows.
To disable the Background Mailer:
1. Verify that Access PLUS is not currently connected to AT&T Mail. If
Access PLUS is currently connected to AT&T Mail, either (a) wait until
the session is complete and Access PLUS has disconnected, or (b) hang
up the modem from the Background Mailer. To hang up the modem, open the
Background Mailer window, and click on the "Hangup" button.
2. Open the Background Mailer window, if it is not already open.
3. Select the "Disable Background Mailer" option from the "Settings" menu
in that window (you should enable the Background Mailer again after your
AT&T WorldNet session is complete, so that Access PLUS will work
properly).
** AT&T Mail Access PLUS For Windows Versions 2.7 and Later **
To disable Mail Transport:
1. Verify that Access PLUS is not currently connected to AT&T Mail. If
Access PLUS is currently connected to AT&T Mail, either (a) wait until
the session is complete and Access PLUS has disconnected, or (b) hang
up the modem from Mail Transport. To hang up the modem, open the Mail
Transport window, and select the "Hangup" option from the "Request"
menu.
2. Open the Mail Transport window, if it is not already open.
3. Select the "Disable Mail Transport" option from the "Request" menu
in that window (you should enable Mail Transport again after your AT&T
WorldNet session is complete, so that Access PLUS will work properly).
Windows Accelerator ("software") Modems
---------------------------------------
PPP dialup software does not always work well with Windows accelerator
("software") modems. Although we know about the problem and are working on
it, we currently do not have a fix for this problem.
If you have this type of modem, you may need to (1) find another TCP/IP
PPP stack/dialer that works with your modem, or (2) use a different modem.
===========================================================================
C. If You Have Difficulty Dialing Out to AT&T WorldNet
===========================================================================
Under some conditions, other applications that dial out using your modem may
occupy the communications port (e.g., COM2) when you try to start an AT&T
WorldNet application (i.e., AT&T WorldNet Services, Eudora Light E-mail, the
AT&T Dialer, or the Registration Wizard).
Some types of applications that may be using the communications port are:
1. Another internet provider's dialer program
2. An online service, such as America Online
3. PC Fax programs
4. Terminal programs, such as Windows Terminal
5. Dialup E-mail programs, such as AT&T Mail Access PLUS, or Microsoft Mail
programs
If you see a message from AT&T WorldNet System Advisor telling you that the
communications port is busy, or you simply cannot dial out, try the following:
1. Close any applications that you think may be blocking access to the
communications port. NOTE: For specific instructions on how to disable
AT&T Mail Access PLUS, see the "AT&T Mail Access PLUS For Windows" section
above (under "B. Potential Setup/Install Conflicts and Solutions").
2. If closing the application(s) does not fix the problem, try resetting the
modem. If you have an external modem, turn it off and then back on. If
this does not fix the problem (or you have an internal modem) we recommend
that you exit Windows, and turn your PC off and back on. This should reset
the modem.
===========================================================================
D. AT&T WorldNet Services Tools
===========================================================================
From the time you install AT&T WorldNet Services software on your computer
system, AT&T is dedicated to providing you with the very best Internet
service and support. To ensure that your time online is productive and
enjoyable, AT&T has developed the System Advisor and System Reporter support
tools, described below.
AT&T WorldNet System Advisor
----------------------------
System Advisor is a program developed by AT&T to help you avoid problems
which can occur when using a PPP dialup internet connection (AT&T WorldNet
Services uses such a connection). In some cases, other applications
(particularly communications applications) use programs or libraries which
can conflict with your AT&T WorldNet connection. If one or more of these
programs/libraries are loaded in memory when you attempt to run an AT&T
WorldNet application (e.g., the World Wide Web browser or Mailer), you may
not be able to establish a successful connection to AT&T WorldNet.
System Advisor checks memory for the presence of applications/libraries which
may cause problems with your AT&T WorldNet connection. System Advisor is
automatically run whenever you double-click on one of the AT&T WorldNet
application icons (e.g., the Netscape browser or Eudora mailer). If System
Advisor finds no conflicting applications/libraries in memory, you will see
no indication that it has run, i.e., it runs "invisibly". If System Advisor
detects potential conflict(s), you will see a window listing the
applications/libraries which may interfere with your AT&T WorldNet connection.
System Advisor employs a "two-pass" strategy. First, it checks for the presence
of applications (such as another internet dialer program) which may cause
connection problems. The System Advisor conflicting applications window is
displayed if System Advisor finds such applications running. You should try to
close these applications before continuing with the AT&T WorldNet connection
attempt. When all conflicting applications are successfully closed, System
Advisor will launch your AT&T WorldNet application automatically.
Next, System Advisor performs a second check to be sure that there are no
programs or libraries left in memory by an application that has already been
closed (some applications do not "clean up" properly when they are closed). If
System Advisor finds problem programs or libraries remaining in memory, the
System Advisor conflicting modules window will be displayed. You may try to
close any applications that are using these modules, ignore this window and
attempt to establish an AT&T WorldNet connection anyway, or have System Advisor
restart Windows (which may "clean up" memory).
AT&T WorldNet System Reporter
-----------------------------
The System Reporter PC Inventory tool is designed to help you get the most out
of your AT&T WorldNet software and service. If you should encounter problems
running your software or connecting to AT&T WorldNet, System Reporter will give
you information to help you determine what the problem is. To run System
Reporter, click on the "Customer Care Tools" icon in the AT&T WorldNet program
group, and then click on the "System Reporter" button on that screen. If you
need to call AT&T WorldNet Customer Care (1-800-400-1447) for help, System
Reporter will help you give your service representative the information he or
she needs to solve your problem and get you back online.
System Reporter has four different windows, each displaying a different kind of
information:
1. "System Profile" Window
This window shows you basic information about your PC -- how much memory you
have, how much space on your hard disk, what sort of BIOS you have, and so
forth.
2. "File Version" Window
This window helps you find important files on your PC, and helps you detect
out-of-date or incompatible versions of system files. It also helps you
notice if you have conflicting network software packages installed, or if
you have installed the same package more than once.
3. "Modem/Comm" Window
This window helps detect if your modem is working correctly.
4. "Running Apps" Window
This window displays other applications that are running under Windows. This
information is helpful if you find that an application is interfering with
the proper operation of your AT&T WorldNet software.
** Known System Reporter Problems **
1. PC may hang if 32-bit disk access or 32-bit file access is enabled.
When running under Windows 3.1 or Windows For Workgroups 3.11, System Reporter
may hang the PC while accessing the disk (for example, while doing a file
search on the "File Versions" page). If this occurs, check your "Control
Panel" settings. If 32-bit disk access or 32-bit file access is selected,
you should turn them off in order to run System Reporter. To check these
settings, do the following:
- Double-click on the "Control Panel" icon in the Program Manager.
- Double-click on the "386 Enhanced" icon in the "Control Panel" window.
- Click on the "Virtual Memory" button.
- Click on the "Change>>" button.
- Be sure that the "Use 32-Bit Disk Access" and "Use 32-Bit File Access"
checkboxes are unchecked.
2. Comm Port conflicts with DOS-based communications applications.
If you are running a DOS-based communications application (for example,
a DOS-resident dialer) under Windows 3.1 or Windows For Workgroups 3.11,
and you attempt to access the System Reporter "Modem/Comm" page, you may
see a screen with a blue background which reads:
-------------------------------------------------------------
| The <comm port name> port is assigned to a DOS application. |
| Do you want to reassign the port to Windows? |
| |
| Press Y for Yes, N for No: Y |
-------------------------------------------------------------
You may also see this screen if you are currently connected to AT&T
WorldNet when you run System Reporter. You should accept the default ("Y")
by pressing enter. You may see the screen one or two more times. Continue
to press enter until you do not see this screen. System Reporter can then
report on the modem and line status. After you close System Reporter,
control should be returned to the other application that was using the
port.
II. Backing Up Your AT&T WorldNet Account Information
We recommend that you back up your AT&T WorldNet account information (such
as your login ID, password, dialup information, etc.). To back up your
AT&T WorldNet account information, do the following after Setup and
Registration are complete:
1. Click on the "Customer Care Tools" icon in the AT&T WorldNet Services
program group.
2. Click on the "Account Info" button on the Customer Care Tools Screen.
This will display a text file containing your account information
and instructions for configuring another PC to access your existing
AT&T WorldNet account.
3. Print this file or save it to a floppy disk for later use.
The information and instructions in the text file will enable you to:
1. Restore your AT&T WorldNet account information if it is accidentally
lost (for example, if you had a system problem).
2. Configure another PC (that has the AT&T WorldNet Services software
installed) to access your existing AT&T WorldNet account. For example,
you may want to access your account from your work location as well as
from home.

A. Netscape Navigator Security Fix Description
=======================================================================
TECHNICAL BACKGROUND
Netscape Navigator uses random information to generate session
encryption keys of either 40 or 128 bits in length. The random
information is found through a variety of functions that look into a
user's machine for information about how many processes are running,
process ID numbers, the current time in microseconds, etc. Previous
releases of Netscape Navigator were vulnerable because the size of
random input was less than the size of the subsequent keys. This
means that instead of searching through all the 2^128 possible keys
by brute force, a potential intruder only had to search through a
significantly smaller key space by brute force. This was a
substantially easier problem to solve because it takes much less
compute time and means 40-bit or 128-bit key strength is
substantially reduced.
SOLUTION
Netscape Navigator 1.22 fixes the specific portion of our software where
this vulnerability existed. We have significantly increased the amount
of random information that cannot be discovered by external sources
from approximately 30 bits to approximately 300 bits.
Netscape has greatly expanded the techniques and sources used to
generate the random information. The number of unpredictable bits in
the random-number generator (RNG) makes it no longer the weak link
in the chain.

B. Windows for Workgroups with Network
===========================================================================
If you are running Windows for Workgroups and have an existing network
installed, the AT&T WorldNet Setup program modifies the following files:
AUTOEXEC.BAT
SET SHIVA = c:\netscape\dialer
PROTOCOL.INI
transport=ntst$hlp, NTST$HLP
netcard=sdialin$,1,SDIALIN$,1
lan#=sdialin$,1,ntst$hlp
[NTST$HLP]
..
..
[SDIALIN$]
..
..
SYSTEM.INI
[386 Enh]
device=dial.386
transport=vntstimd.exe
[Network Drivers]
netcard=dialndis.exe
transport=vtcprmt.exe
[Network]
sesstimeout=240
[Vntstimd]
Numtcbs=255

C. Dial-On Demand With Netscape and Eudora
===========================================================================
You can manually use the Dialer to connect to AT&T WorldNet Services.
Otherwise, when you start Netscape, if you aren't already connected to
AT&T WorldNet Services, the Dialer automatically starts a connection for you.
After 5 minutes of inactivity (you can change this setting in the Dialer
properties), the Dialer hangs up the call. Clicking any link in Netscape
will restart the Dialer and connect to AT&T WorldNet Services.
If the Dialer starts when you start Netscape, then the Dialer will also
automatically hang up the call and quit when you exit Netscape.
When using Eudora, the Dialer will only start when you send or check your
email.

D. Uninstalling AT&T WorldNet Services
===========================================================================
To uninstall the AT&T WorldNet Services software, perform the following
steps:
1. Insert the AT&T WorldNet Disk 1 in your floppy drive and run a:\setup (or
b:\setup, depending on your floppy drive) and press Enter.
2. On the first Setup screen, select "Continue".
3. The next Setup screen will ask you if you would like to "Reinstall" or
"Deinstall". Select the "Deinstall" option.
4. On the following window, Setup will ask you if you want to delete the old
AT&T WorldNet directory.
IMPORTANT: If you have a version of Netscape Navigator that is configured
for use over a LAN, verify that the directory in this window contains the
AT&T WorldNet Services software. If the directory contains the "LAN"
version of Netscape, answer "No" to this question. You can then delete the
AT&T WorldNet Services directory manually from File Manager.

F. Miscellaneous
=============================================================================
1) If you get this error message "Security error has occurred, security
error: XX. You will probably be unable to connect securely to this
server. You can try to make an unsecure connection, if you wish.", you
will need to update your system date to today's date.
2) When you run the Modem Setup from the Registration Wizard, it checks for
FIFO in your serial port. This is because machines without FIFO can't
handle high DTE speed, so setup turns the DTE speed down to 9600.
If you don't want the Registration Wizard to turn down the DTE speed
during Registration, you can disable this feature by modifying the
shivappp.ini file before running the wizard. The shivappp.ini file is
located in your WORLDNET\DIALER directory. Set CheckForFIFO=No in the
preferences section in your shivappp.ini file.
3) OLE 2.02: The AT&T WorldNet Setup program for Windows 3.1 and Windows for
Workgroups 3.11 installs the following OLE2 files into the Windows System
directory only if 1) there is no existing DLL or 2) if the existing DLL is
older:
COMPOBJ.DLL 108544 10-10-94
MFCOLEUI.DLL 146976 1-13-95
OLE2.DLL 302592 10-10-94
OLE2.REG 27026 10-10-94
OLE2CONV.DLL 57328 10-10-94
OLE2DISP.DLL 164832 10-10-94
OLE2NLS.DLL 150976 10-10-94
OLE2PROX.DLL 51712 10-10-94
STDOLE.TLB 4304 10-10-94
STORAGE.DLL 157696 10-10-94
TYPELIB.DLL 177216 10-10-94
